Some times it happens while some times it is perfect. Hi Ginika, it is usually due to the potency of the yeast. If the yeast is weak, then it will take longer to rise and if is expired it won't rise at all.

So make sure you preserve your yeast well and always check the expiring date before use. Self rising flour has baking powder and salt added to it.

Just want to add nutmeg and little sugar. Hi dear, if it is just the dry flour that is in the fridge, simply take it out of the fridge and let it return to room temperature, then add the warm water and the remaining ingredients.

But if, you have already mixed the batter that is, added water to the flour mixture before storing in the fridge , I really can't judge if the yeast will still be active, but let it sit in room temperature for about an hour, then drop a little into hot oil,if it doesn't form a round puff puff, then the yeast is dead and you'll end up with flat puff puff.

That sounds more like akara, I have never added pepper n onions to my puff puf, but these days people add a lot of stuff, you can try with a little and see how it turns out.

Yes you can, but store it in the refrigerator before it starts to rise. The low temperature of the fridge will slow down the yeast and make it rise slowly.

Many thanks. Maybe the oil was too hot. Always do a heat test, by dropping a little of the puff puff batter into the oil. If it comes out burnt, then let the oil cool down a bit before you continue.
