Yet, once in a while a movie fan like me can still find a flick to root for. Thankfully the people who put this story forward looked beyond money, CGI effects etc.
I think the acting in the first few scenes were questionable, but they get much better as the movie goes on.
I purchased this flick almost a year ago, yet refused to watch it. The reviews said it had no action and the cover art on the DVD was misleading. Yes, that is true.
No warplane action really happens. But this film has a soul and message to it. The cinematography is very good, even if it feels like you are in the middle of a snow storm at times and cannot see anything and at times you can't see anything which makes it seem more real.
It is filmed in 2. I am so very grateful, as a huge movie buff, when at least a few movie makers go back to the basic principles of what makes great flicks.
Fans of movies like Spiderman and Transformers will be bored to death with this. If you want to see massive CGI explosions and cartoon like characters, do not watch this film.
If you like movies based on acting, character development, history, WW2, survival and mankind throwing away evil thoughts and war ending itself, watch this one.
Not a bad movie but not great either. The acting is solid all the way around. It would have been nice if there was a little build up, like maybe some flying or a short air battle, before they find themselves in a crashed plane in the middle of nowhere, or even just starting the movie with the plane actually crashing, but no, its just 'Hey, here we are in the middle of nowhere!
Basically the whole plot boils down to three Germans and two Englishmen having to share a cabin in the wilds of 's Norway in the middle of winter snowstorm until they can leave and find help.
If you've ever seen Hell in the Pacific then the 'both sides initially hostile but then slowly learning to trust one another' aspect of this movie will seem very familiar, except Hell in the Pacific was a much more compelling, much more exciting movie than this one.
In this movie they're quite literally just sitting around a cabin for two hours trying not to starve or freeze to death, and a couple of times something almost interesting happens.
Despite the problems with the script its still not a bad movie, the actors bring do manage to bring their characters to life, but seem to be limited by mostly banal and occasionally stereotypical ww2 war movie dialogue.
Overall I still think it would be okay to watch for free on youtube someday. I ordered it off of Amazon because it looked interesting and catered to two of my interests; I'm both a pilot and a history buff.
So I took a chance on it. I was not disappointed, it's a very well acted and well produced film that is supposed to be based on a true story.
I found the story compelling, it held my interest from the start and by the end I had become attached to the characters, I really cared about what happened to them.
And I completely forgot that Rupert Grint was in the Harry Potter movies, he did a pretty good job in this film. If you're a World War Two buff or you just like movies about the human spirit and about how people respond when they find themselves in tense and difficult circumstances, or if you just belief in the basic goodness of the human animal, even in wartime, then watch this movie.
The scenery was good and there is a lot of suspense throughout the film which reaches a climax when the one German's infected arm needs to be addressed.
How they dealt with that together was touching and tense. I didn't care for Rupert Grint's character though.
I could barely understand a word he said and I could have done without his constant dropping of the F-bomb. Plus, there are no subtitles.
Other than that it was an okay film. I really enjoyed Into the White. I give it a 9, it would have been a 10 if they had a scene of the planes fighting in the sky before the start.
Sort of was missing that war scene so we could more get into the situation of hate of another. But the actors does a great job, everyone is great.
The beautiful and harsh landscape of the Norwegian mountains and wilderness is really beautiful and spectacular, and shows what sort of situation they are in.
You get involved as an audience, you feel their emotions and feel their pain, and feels sorry for even the Germans.

As the story of the British and German airmen trapped together in a snowy cabin unfolds, you get to know each one and feel for them and the decisions that loom ahead of them.
Knowing this was based on a true story made it all the more poignant. What a great movie! No superheroes blasting the world apart. Just a good true dramatic story with great acting.
Tears and humor hold together the opposing characters trying to stay alive regardless of ideology. They are a microcosm of the world today, but I worry about our outcome.

Some Germans are shot down and hide in an abandoned house, only to be joined by 2 British pilots, one being Rupert Grint with an odd accent, not sure if it is meant to be a liverpool accent or not.
The acting is good just if it were the Americans sharing a house with the enemy they probably would not be as nice, granted it starts off rather frosty when the two enemies meet.
