I really love the final season which is set in world war 1 and ends in a way that I think shines a light on what modern day comedy is missing, that is to say, a lack of self-reflection and emotional depth.
Each season of Blackadder improves; Seasons 3 and 4 are watchable again and again. Seeing a collection of great British actors deliver witty repartee, ham it up, and interact with each other in a way that gives the impression that the cast is having a great time is a real treat.
Season 3's Blackadder is a butler as wicked and scheming as his name would suggest; Hugh Laurie plays the Prince of Wales in a manner very similar to his Bertie Wooster, except the the prince is possibly even dimmer and certainly not as honorable or likable as Wooster.
Dogsbody Baldrick is a coarse, dimwitted straight man. This is the only one of the four main series in which Blackadder triumphs.
It is a rollicking, anachronism-ridden good time. Season 4 is hilarious until the latter half of the last episode, but the humor throughout is grimmer than in any of the previous series which had more than a little gallows humor.
This series is set in the trenches of World War I, where Blackadder, Baldrick, and George Hugh Laurie again--this time a perfect Bertie Wooster type, sweet and dumb and honorable are stuck on the front lines enduring squalid living conditions and the ever-present threat of imminent death.

She used to laugh so deep and endlessly watching this show. I did not understand why back then. I am 38 years old now. Watching this show again seems like yesterday.

Not a frequent reviewer. This series is an exception to my general avoidance of reviewing. All that concentrated star power Black Adder also has a maturing aspect to it, even including that several years passed IRL between each of the four seasons It's a pleasure to see returning actors and enjoy watching the progress, if that's what to call it, of the DNA of these characters through time.
Baldrick's line rather loses the quick mental edge possessed by the progenitor Baldrick, Sod-Off First of his name!
Shouts to Amazon for putting this delightful show on Prime. Wonderful dialogue and hilarious characters! The entire series is top notch and sadly no show will ever compare or ever exist again.
